Polaroid Saguaro Series

Polaroid Saguaro Series

I started the #SaguaroSeries last year on a trip to Saguaro National Park. I had been shooting with Polaroid and Fujifilm for a few years and I never established a particular focus. I have always loved the idea that every photo is unique and you only get one chance with every shot every time you shoot a Polaroid photograph. This required me to think through my shots and really observe how I was capturing light. As a videographer it is easy for me to digitally record lots of footage without thought or patience. Photographing with a Polaroid camera allowed me to step back and capture moments differently then I had before.

I chose to photograph Saguaro cacti because I grew up with them here in Arizona and I have always loved their expressiveness. Saguaros are almost like people. They reach to the sky, they say “hello!” or they have their arms low like in their pockets, reflecting, or they have many arms or crooked arms or no arms. When I look at a Saguaro I see myself.

I hope to continue this series with different themes and ideas in the future. You can follow me @jujubyz on Instagram to see more. All the photos were shot with a Polaroid Sun 600 LMS with Impossible 600 Film. Thank you!
